Walpole Computer Foundation Raises $32,000 to Support thePublic Schools’ Computer Education and Technology Resources
~Grants Go Towards Enriching the Teaching and Learning Experience~

Walpole, Mass.—At the Walpole Computer Foundation annual meeting this past week, Chair of the Golf Tournament, Carl Tempesta, announced that the Foundation had raised over $32, 000 at their annual golf tournament—an 11% increase over last year’s event. All proceeds from this WCF event will go towards computer education and technology resources for the Walpole public schools.

This annual event has always been a large drawing card with avid golfers who enjoy playing for a worthwhile cause.  This year, the tournament had the added pleasure of being held on a spectacular Fall day with sunny skies and warm temperatures. As such, an early morning continental breakfast supplied by Walpole’s Super Stop & Shop was available outdoors on the scenic grounds of the Franklin Country Club. Once breakfast was over and registration was completed, golfers took to their carts to begin a round that would also include hole-in-one prizes, and qualification for the $10,000 putting contest.

Chair of the WCF Golf Tournament Carl Tempesta, with Rich Bevilqua, Eric Kraus and Kevin Welby at the Franklin Country Club where WCF had its annual fundraiser. This year, the golf tournament helped raise $32,000 to support computer education and technology for the Walpole public schools.

“I am always so amazed by the generosity of our participants and sponsors, and the energy of our volunteers, who recognize that their contributions go towards such a beneficial cause,” said Chair Carl Tempesta. “It is through their continued support that we are able to provide our schools with the supplementary budget that allows them to offer stronger computer programs, state-of-the-art classroom technologies, and the needed resources that enrich the teaching and learning experience.”

“In particular, I would like to underscore how grateful we are to our major sponsors this year who showed a strong commitment to our educational endeavor,” continued Tempesta.  “It is because of their generous support that we are able to support our public schools with the level of grants that we do.”

The key sponsors this year were: Management Information Consultants, Inc., Miracle Ear, Tyco Healthcare, Gillette Company, Sovereign Bank and Plating for Electronics. Further, many local vendors and families contributed to hole & program sponsorships, and donated great auction items and raffle prizes.

At this year’s 13th annual golf tournament, golfers played a Florida-style best ball.  Showing the same passion for the WCF cause as they did for their golf game, these players enthusiastically took part in the putting contest, hole-in-one events, the raffle and in the very animated live auction with spectacular items including: sports memorabilia, prized Patriots Club Seats, Taylor driver club, King Cobra set of 8 irons, and golf foursomes at the TPC and Franklin Country Club. With all the great items, the live auction raised over $9,000.

Driving this event was a team of volunteers that worked tirelessly behind the scenes to execute this tournament seamlessly and smoothly,” said WCF President, David Orecchio.  “With relentless energy, they ensured a premiere event -- the type of event that will keep our patrons coming back year-after-year.”

Since its inception in 1992, the WCF has disbursed over $550,000 to a variety of project within the Walpole public schools.  At the WCF annual meeting held late October, Walpole’s Superintendent of Schools, Kathleen Smith, praised the WCF for the amount of monies they had raised over the years as well as the effort and support for the annual golf tournament. She thanked the volunteers for organizing these fundraisers that helped supplement the school budget for key technology needs. Linda Colvin, Instructional Technology Coordinator of the Walpole public schools, reviewed several projects where WCF money had been disbursed in 2005 including: the famous WHS film festival, the WHS robotics club, SMART Board interactive technology in the classroom, significant computer upgrades, advanced music and art technology programs, library computer resources, and many other software and hardware needs.

The Walpole Computer Foundation’s next event is the famed Las Vegas Night & Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament that is currently scheduled for Saturday, January 20th at Christina’s in Foxboro.  This event, renowned as one of the greatest “nights out”, is a must attend!  Mark your calendars now. Tickets are already on sale through WCF members and will soon be available through the website at: www.walpolecomputerfoundation.org
